mind the gap

Another great day here. :)
Some notes and stories from the day:

*First of all, i think it's great that the hostel is trying to save the planet by conserving money...but having a shower that turns off ever 22 seconds is definitely NOT ideal...

*Funny story: okay, so today we were walking in the underground, heading to our next train platform, and we had to go up a flight of stairs. So, Savannah was in the front (as usual...she power-walks, even though she won't admit it.) and i don't know how, but i suddenly tripped on the stairs and completely fell down onto the stairs and grabbed Savannah's legs as i went down! She looked back at me, super confused, wondering why i was on the floor, holding her legs. it was quite funny...thankfully not many people were around... ;)

*side note: the reason people over here are so skinny is probably because of all the stairs they have! Basically no elevators (lifts, as they are called over here), and tons of stairs! We take probably 3 flights of stairs each time we use the Tube, and we use the tube ATON. my legs are so sore!

*We went to
-London Bridge (a boring cement bridge....the really pretty one is the Tower Bridge!)
-Tower of London (we didn't tour it, but saw the beefeaters (guards) and sat outside it, by the Thames and ate sandwiches and people-watched for a couple hours! SO MUCH FUN.
-Shakespeare's Globe Theater (we didn't go inside, but it looked cool from the outside!)
-Tate Modern Museum (when they say MODERN, they mean it....kinda strange. and we got in trouble for taking a video in there...haha)
-Leicester Square (where we got tickets to see Wicked for 24.50 pounds!!)

*Okay...so we went to Wicked and it was amazing!!! it was kinda our splurge for the trip, so we dressed up a bit...Savannah wore a dress and leggings and flip flops, and i wore a nice shirt, jeans and heels....mistake. do you know how hard it is to walk on cobblestone streets in heels?! yeah...hard. But Wicked was SO amazing...definitely worth the money and aching feet. :)

*another funny story: Okay so the pigeons here are everywhere and totally freak me out, cuz i'm scared they will attack me. Well, Savannah and I were walking by this bench with a pigeon on it (Savannah was on the side closest to the bench/pigeon). I had a brilliant idea, and said, "I'm going to throw water on the pigeon!" Savannah started to say, "No you aren---" but it was too late....I dumped water from my water bottle on the pigeon, and it freaked out and flew straight into savannah!!!!!! She screamed and i screamed, and we both ran away wondering if we should laugh or cry!!! It was sooooo funny! Only because i'm the one who didn't get hit by the pigeon...lol

*Oh, if any of you know the bridge that Amanda Bynes and Oliver James walked on, talking, in What A Girl Wants...we walked on that bridge today!

*We went to St. Paul's Cathedral! It reminded us of our state capitol building...it was beautiful, and we went inside for the 5:00 Evensong service. Let me say, it made me thankful for one aspect of our church: passion. It was so monotone and ritualistic...a good reminder to be passionate about what we believe in...especially if we want to draw anyone else in. :)

*can't think of anything else for now, so that's it for today!
today was pretty chilly with a heavy wind...it reminded me of Chicago. Now Savannah and I are the only two in the "chill-out room" of our hostel. Through the open window i can hear accents, foreign languages, laughter from a nearby pub, and quick traffic on Borough High Street. Sweet dreams.

  1. Sarai.....you need to be a comedy writer or play by play announcer. VERY NICE UPDATE!! One question: Did the pigeon leave any remembrances on Savannah's dress? Cool you made it to Evensong....different type of worship isn't it! <3 u tons!
